Celebrating Collaborative Success at the Inaugural WasteMINZ/ALGA Conference

The inaugural WasteMINZ and Australasian Land & Groundwater Association (ALGA) Conference, held in May in Wellington, marked a significant milestone for the environmental sector in New Zealand and Australia. Bringing together over 650 attendees, 45 exhibitors, 19 sponsors, and more than 180 speakers, the event was one of the largest gatherings for the contaminated land, waste and environmental sectors in the region. It also underscored the power of cross-organisational collaboration in addressing some of the significant challenges that the industry currently faces.

The conference theme was "Mā te mahi tahi - Driving impact through collaboration", and we’d like to congratulate both WasteMINZ and ALGA for collaborating to produce such a positive outcome. The conference provided space for all delegates - from industry leaders to emerging professionals - to share insights, explore innovative solutions and encourage each other not to lose sight of the big picture as we go about our daily business.

We were proud to support this landmark event as a Silver Sponsor and active participant. Our involvement also extended beyond sponsorship; we contributed to the Contaminated Land Management Workshop and the Emerging Professionals Workshop, where we engaged with industry experts and the next generation of environmental professionals.  Additionally, our participation in organising committees and industry working groups highlighted our long-standing commitment to fostering industry growth and development.

The conference featured a diverse range of technical presentations, panel discussions, and workshops, facilitating knowledge exchange and collaboration among attendees. Events like the Women in Industry Breakfast and the gala dinner further enriched the experience, offering valuable networking opportunities that strengthened relationships across the sector.

The success of the WasteMINZ/ALGA Conference exemplifies the impact of collaborative efforts in the environmental sector. As we look forward to next year's event in Hamilton, we remain dedicated to supporting initiatives that drive industry progress and sustainability. In the meantime, if you need help with your environmental project, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our team.

Pasture and Silage Quality Testing: Turning Grass into Better Decisions

For many New Zealand farmers, pasture is the largest component of the feed budget. Measuring pasture and silage quality is key to getting the most out of home-grown feed. While a paddock may look green and lush, its nutritional value can vary considerably depending on season, pasture species, maturity and soil conditions. Pasture and silage quality testing provides farmers with data on what animals are actually eating, rather than relying on visual assessment alone.
