Sustainability

We care about our people and strive for environmental sustainability.

At Hill Labs, we are dedicated to environmental stewardship. Our sustainability initiatives extend beyond mere compliance; they are designed to reduce our environmental impact and reflect our ongoing commitment to sustainable practices within our community.

Our Initatives

Commitment to a Low-Carbon Future

We have achieved Toitū Carbon Reduce certification, aligned with the internationally recognised standard ISO 14064-1. This certification reflects our measurable commitment to managing and reducing greenhouse gas emissions across our operations.

Repurposing Plastic

In collaboration with Future Post, we repurpose plastic waste to be used for long-lasting fence posts. Every day, we collect used sampling containers, lab consumables, and soft plastics from staff across the business. Future Post’s innovative process can handle plastics that are typically hard to recycle, repurposing them into durable fence posts used by our agricultural customers. Read more

Transition to Reusable Labware

We are transitioning from single-use plastics in favour of reusable labware wherever possible. This initiative is part of our broader commitment to reducing environmental waste and promoting sustainable practices. By transitioning to reusable alternatives, we aim to minimse landfill contributions, lower our carbon footprint, and support a circular economy.

Energy and Emission Reduction

We have integrated electric and hybrid vehicles into our fleet, significantly reducing our transportation-related emissions. This transition not only lowers our carbon footprint but also supports cleaner air and more energy-efficient operations. In parallel, we are actively reducing energy consumption across our laboratories.

Employee Engagement

We encourage our workforce to reduce paper usage by bringing in their own flexible plastic waste for recycling at the lab.  In addition, through our partnership with Workride, we promote low-emission commuting options such as e-bikes. This initiative not only helps reduce transportation-related emissions but also fosters a healthier, more active lifestyle.

Social Responsiblity

Our staff actively participate in community engagement programs, including volunteer days. We believe in giving back to our local communities and supporting various initiatives across Aotearoa through internal fundraising. These efforts not only strengthen our connection with the communities we serve but also foster a culture of empathy, collaboration, and shared responsibility.
