Medicinal Cannabis Testing

As a 100% New Zealand owned and operated laboratory, we are committed to providing the New Zealand medicinal cannabis industry with world-class analytical testing services. We currently have a wide range of tests available for the industry, and will continue to expand our service offering in this new and exciting field of research and product development as the requirements evolve. As an ISO 17025:2017 accredited laboratory, you can be confident in the results we produce.

Cannabinoids

Our cannabinoid method is IANZ accredited for dry cannabis flower. Our suite includes THC, THCa, CBD, CBDa, THCV, THCVa, CBG, CBGa, CBN.

Heavy Metals

Metals analysis is available in soil, leaves and cannabis flower. Our flower method covers the 4 elements prescribed in the Misuse of Drugs (Medicinal Cannabis) Regulations 2019, which are arsenic, cadmium, lead and mercury.

Microbiology

We have IANZ accredited methods on cannabis flower for Aerobic Plate Count, Yeasts & Moulds, Salmonella, Bile Tolerant Gram Negative Bacteria, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and E.coli. Both EP (European Pharmacopoeia) and APHA methods are available for some tests. Environmental monitoring is also available. We can supply air settle plates and swabs to monitor grow rooms or to swab processing equipment for bacterial or pathogen analysis.

Pesticide Residues

We are the only New Zealand lab currently offering pesticide analysis in cannabis. We can analyse for all of the compounds mentioned in the regulations.

Aflatoxin and Ochratoxin A

Mycotoxins are naturally occurring toxins produced by certain fungi that are found on agricultural crops. Our mycotoxin method covers aflatoxin B1, B2, G1, G2 and Ochratoxin A. This method is validated on dry cannabis flower.

Terpenes

Our terpenes method has been validated on dry cannabis flower and oils. The suite analyses for 21 different terpenes. There is scope for this method to be utilised outside of the medicinal cannabis sector e.g. for essential oils, beverages etc.

Soil and Herbage

As a one-stop shop testing provider, we also provide soil and herbage testing for nutritional status.

Hill News August 2024 - Update From Our MD, Dr Jonno Hill

This year our business turns 40, so it is natural that we take some time to reflect on our journey to date, and where we think we might be heading.  One of the things I am particularly proud of at the moment is the increasing attention we're paying to measuring and reducing our environmental footprint.  Running a business in a competitive market requires that many things are done well, and so we are always working hard at our 'business-as-usual' routine services, as well as a portfolio of projects aimed at expanding and improving our business.  As for any business, our key people generally have very little discretionary time, and there is always a list of things to do.  Spending time on environmental sustainability initiatives therefore requires deliberate thought and effort - time that needs to be carved out in an environment where time is of the essence.

Reliable metal testing results to ensure your wine meets market standards

Essential trace elements and undesirable heavy metals can be introduced into wine through various parts of the wine making process from vine to vintage. This includes: geochemical composition of rocks and soil, trace elements from environmental pollution, the use of fertilisers and pesticides, contact of grape material with various materials used in winemaking, including stainless steel, different types of wooden barrels, glass bottles, and other equipment.

A new measure for Soil Biological Health

Determining the presence of earthworms in soil has become easier. Hill Labs is delighted to announce the release of our new earthworm eDNA (environmental DNA) test which detects the DNA of earthworms in soil. A first for New Zealand, this soil test provides an indication of one of the biological components of soil health.
