Meet the New Sales Team
Hill Labs is growing its presence in the food testing sector, with a newly established sales team that is passionate about making a genuine difference for customers. Based in Christchurch, the team is led by Head of Sales Sara Hargraves, alongside Business Development Manager, Jules Butler and Key Account Manager, Elyse Coker.
Each brings a unique blend of scientific expertise and sales acumen, making them the perfect partners to help food producers navigate complex testing requirements and unlock new opportunities. But what truly drives them is their shared commitment to building relationships that go beyond business—taking the time to understand each customer’s goals and delivering support that feels more like collaboration than a business transaction.
From Science to Sales
The team’s unique strength lies in their blend of technical expertise and people-focused approach. Sara and Elyse both have extensive experience in microbiology, which means they understand the science behind the services Hill Labs offers. Sara’s leadership is underpinned by her decades-long career in public health and food testing laboratories, while Elyse’s background in microbiological testing and client management ensures she understands the complexities of food safety regulations and customer requirements.
Business Development Manager Jules, on the other hand, brings a fresh perspective with her diverse background in sales, customer service, and relationship management across a range of industries. Her strength lies in her ability to connect with people, ask insightful questions, and really listen to uncover what customers need. Together, they make a formidable team that’s both technically proficient and deeply connected to our clients’ businesses.
The newly formed sales team is part of Hill Labs’ strategic focus on growing the food testing sector, supporting the significant investment we have made in this area. Their remit covers everything from microbiological and chemical testing to nutrition analysis, supporting manufacturers and producers across New Zealand.
“From small, family-owned businesses to large manufacturers, our goal is to provide testing solutions that help ensure the safety and quality of their products. It’s incredibly inspiring working with business owners who are passionate about what they produce,” says Sara.
The Customer’s Voice at Hill Labs
Sara, Jules, and Elyse know that what makes Hill Labs stand out from others is the collective strength of our scientists, lab technicians, client service teams, and executives working hard behind the scenes to deliver timely and reliable results, and superior customer service.
“When we go out to talk to customers, we’re backed by the best,” explains Sara. “We have incredible scientists and operational teams who work tirelessly to deliver reliable results, and an executive team that’s committed to supporting our customers’ success. We are the bridge between the customer and all of that expertise, bringing insights back to craft solutions that truly meet their needs.”
An example of this collaboration is their recent work with the honey testing team. “We had our technical honey experts join us for customer visits in Northland,” shares Elyse. “Having the technical team on the ground was incredibly valuable. They were able to see firsthand the challenges our clients were facing and provide real-time solutions. The feedback was fantastic, and we’re looking to extend this model into other parts of the business.”
It’s this commitment to building real, long-term relationships that makes the team stand out. They focus on understanding each client’s business goals and providing the support needed to help them succeed. This approach means that when customers run into issues, they know they can count on the Hill Labs team.
“We had a large customer tell us recently that they chose us because we listened,” says Jules. “They loved that we took the time to really understand what they needed, and that trust made all the difference. It’s moments like that which remind us why we do what we do.”

Looking to the Future
The team is excited about what’s to come, with big plans to bring new services to market and support Hill Labs’ growth in food testing. We are also expanding the team, with a new member joining the food sales team in Hamilton to extend our reach and better serve customers across the region.
“One of the things that makes Hill Labs special is how humble the company is about its achievements,” says Jules. “Our staff are so focused on delivering for the customer that they rarely take time to celebrate their own wins. Part of our job is to be the ones who toot the horn and share those success stories.”
