Staff Profile - Barbie Muller
I’ve been with Hill Labs for 26 years now. My journey began during one of our acquisitions, bringing a small but busy microbiology lab called EnviroLink into the fold. I was part of the team that joined Hill Labs during that transition.
Over the years, I’ve taken on nearly every role imaginable within the company. I started as a section manager in microbiology, covering critical positions like quality, technologist/method expert, and customer service. As the lab expanded, I shifted to a more focused role, balancing responsibilities between senior technologist and customer service. For the past ten years, I’ve concentrated solely on customer service. I’ve also been a vital source of technical knowledge and played a key role in the change management process during the microbiology lab acquisitions that we have undertaken.
The aspect I enjoy most about working here is the people. I’ve met some incredible individuals, both internally and externally, and I feel privileged to have nurtured these relationships over the years, some spanning decades. My role challenges me daily, providing ample mental stimulation that keeps things engaging.
It’s hard to pinpoint a single highlight in my career at Hill Labs because there have been so many, however a memorable moment was obtaining a last-minute visa and traveling to China as a technical expert at a customer’s request. But I also cherish the smaller moments, like receiving positive feedback from customers thrilled with their experiences at Hill Labs.
Most of my day revolves around interacting with people, whether in person, on the phone, or electronically.
Outside of work, I’m a bit of a night owl, so sleeping in on weekends is a treat. My partner Tony and I love exploring various cafes for weekend brunch. I also enjoy gardening when the weather permits. However, my biggest passion is breeding beautiful Birman cats - I proudly embrace my identity as a self-confessed crazy cat lady!
