What substances do we test for in hair samples?
This type of testing helps determine the consumption of drugs over time, offering a longer detection window than other biological samples. We offer testing for a wide range of drug groups and alcohol markers over various time periods. Drug groups available include but are not limited to:
- Amphetamine Type Substances (ATS)
- Cannabinoids
- Opiates and opioids
- Cocaine and metabolites
- Benzodiazepines
- Ketamine and metabolite
- Methadone and metabolite
- Alcohol markers: Ethyl Glucuronide (ETG) and Ethyl Palmitate (ETP)

What type of samples are used for hair drug testing?
- Head hair is the preferred sample type.
- Body hair may be used when head hair is unavailable.
- Alcohol marker testing is available only on head hair.
How long does it take to get results for hair drug testing?
We carry out testing on behalf of collectors based around New Zealand, and provide detailed reports within 10 working days of sample receipt.

Hills Labs does not offer sampling and collection. We strongly recommend engaging a qualified collection consultant to manage the process. Consultants handle:
